Arthur has hand foot & mouth disease. So, we couldn't go to the beach or do much else. But we did go to see finding dory - and he lasted almost the whole movie. Hooray!?!

Hand, foot, mouth and a whole lot of construction

Arthur has hand, foot & mouth. As a result we are not going to the beach. Well stay home and enjoy the construction going on at our house.
Friday night we walked up to city center to watch the Fri night concert - but we arrived about 3 minutes before a serious rain storm. Too bad too, because there was a lot of shark week related activities that the kids would have loved.

Mini me

This girl really is my mini me. Last night as they were getting ready for bed she reminded me how much she wants to go back to the beach and stay for 10 weeks. Me too, Lu.

Best day ever....

We may be able to skip digger land this summer....

Cousins week

We did a few days of cousins week this weekend. It was hectic but the kids had a great time.

After 3 days of riding around on my hip (and Lulas scooter), Arthur was not pleased that I was going to work this morning. He started weeping as soon as I put on a work dress. Even the digger parked in the back yard didn't distract him for very long. Maybe he'll get a ride on that digger - I know that would cheer him right up.

Kitty goggles

Arth Vader does his bike stunts with hello kitty swim goggles. This makes everything way more dangerous as they just obstruct his vision and pull his hair.

I'd be better off blindfolding him, from an injury prevention standpoint.

A lot of monkeys in my bed

Despite the fact that the kids were put to bed in heir respective beds, this is the scene I found when I poked my head in their room before I went to bed.

I imagine that after Lula fell asleep Arthur crawled into her bed. Around 4 am I heard her wake up and yelp. She doesn't like to share her bed with him. She then marched into our room to complain and I just put her between pat & I and told her to go back to bed! Five minutes later we hear Arthur fall out of Lulas bed and begin screaming. Pat went and rescued him from under the bed.
So this was the scene when I left at 6:15. Crowded but cozy.

Beach weekend!

We had a fabulous beach weekend. The weather was hot, the ocean was cold and the lobsters were delicious!

On our way to swim lessons this morning Lula told me that Mrs Danver (swim teacher) is NOT in charge of her. She later added that I need to tell Mrs Danver that Lula shouldn't put her head under water she shouldn't get pushed down the adult aisle. Turns out she didn't want to swim the whole length of the pool in the lap lane.

Im hiding around the corner while she has the lesson and I can hear her telling Mrs. Danver that when she grows up she wants to be a singer. She's singing lines from a strawberry shortcake movie she loves. No wonder she has trouble catching her breath!

Dude

Last night Arthur was having a real scream fest at bedtime. He was unhappy that I left the room after the books and timer. We were briefly engaged in a battle of wills where he got out of bed and came to the gate at the top of he stairs to scream bloody murder before I walked him back to his bed without a word. After a while he tired of that and just laid in his bed screaming like he was being tortured. After a couple minutes we hear lula tell him, "take a deep breath, dude."

I was nodding emphatically in agreement.

Dinner lessons

While eating dinner tonight we looked out the window and saw mojo pouncing around in the grass playing with something. There were also about six blue jays dive bombing him and making a LOT of noise. We all abandoned our dinner and pressed our noses to the glass to watch mojo murder the little bird he had in his paws. Man, those blue jays were seriously unhappy.
Cue meaningful family discussion about death, animals and murder. And a lot of speculation about how mojo lost that eye.

Weekend

We had a nice low key weekend around town. On Saturday we took a nice long walk around silver spring and caught the farmers market in downtown ss and then spent the afternoon at Aunt Josephine's pool. Lula has made excellent strides with her swimming capabilities. Can't wait to get Arthur in the pool with Mrs. Danver. Sunday we had a nice lazy morning, went to carters birthday party, and then to Arthur's soccer practice.

While at the pool Arthur spotted a slug. Have you ever really looked at a slug up close? They are gross and totally fascinating. We spent a lot of time inches away from that slug. We traced the shiny trail he left behind him and looked closely at his creepy body. When another little girl arrived at the pool Arthur was yelling to her about the slug, likening the slug to his other animal, a caterpillar named tickles. Can you imagine how confused that child must have been?

The lifeguard at aunt Josephine's pool was a round scrawny guy named Alex. He spent a lot of the time sitting in his lifeguard chair on the side of the pool. Arthur kept referring to him as a fireman. We must have corrected him a dozen times but still he shouted goodbye fireman as we were leaving.

Zucchini mania

This photo perfectly captures their personalities. Lula is gregarious and friendly and not even a little reserved. In contrast, Arthur is quiet, reserved and possibly a little shy.
They were so cute up there together that the great zucchini came up to me afterwards to tell me how lucky Arthur is to have such a nice mouthpiece. She sure does help him out. I'm glad they'll be in school together next year. It's always a good idea to have a staff mouthpiece on site, especially when you're starting a new school.

Year end party!

Lula and Arthur both got to go to Alemes end of the year party yesterday. There was pizza, water play and cupcakes.

I carefully packed a bag the night before that had long sleeved rash guards for both kids, sunscreen, hats and towels. I am somewhat confused by this picture since my pale Lula is hanging around in a skimpy bathing suit with no hat. What gives? I'll assume that she was slathered in spf 70 all over - but I still want a hat on her head too.

Apparently they cut their party short when Arthur pooped his pants (badly) and Glena decided she couldn't easily just clean it up. I did throw an extra pair of bathing trunks in the bag for this exact reason, but she said it was a real mess. Fortunately Lula didn't mention how Arthur crapped his pants and made them head home early.
