The costume saga began 3 weeks ago. Lula & I were at Costco and I saw a cute green dragon costume . It was fleecy and had long pants & a hoodie. She seemed to like it enough so for $12 I bought it. Once we got home she decided she hated it. She seemed afraid of it, really, but I was willing to look past her fear and make her wear it since I already had it and it was so cheap.
On Monday I realized I hadn't seen the pants in a week or so. I looked and looked but couldn't find the pants. Wednesday night it was obvious that I lost the pants and her costume would really stink without them. But, since she is 2 and I am busy I was willing to overlook a crappy costume and resolved to do better next year.
Yesterday I had 2 hearings beginning at 1:00 so I didn't really have enough time to even run out and grab something else until the clerk called me to push my start time back to 1:30. Hallelujah! I dragged my enormously pregnant self over to h & m where I purchased $61 worth of last minute Halloween costumes. After our earlier snafu with the dinosaur I got 2 costumes so lula could pick which she preferred: Wonder Woman and a ballerina. Then I cabbed back to court with a bag of polyester children's costumes, sat through 2 excruciating hearings, and got back to my office just in time to run out and catch the train.
I picked lula up and told her about the new costumes. I went to hand her back the ballerina costume and noticed that there was an anti theft device still affixed to the crotch of the leotard part of the get up. Decision made - lula would be wonder woman and I will return the ballerina outfit today.
Next year I will shoot to have her costume ready to go before 5:15 pm on Halloween.
UPDATE: exactly 24 hours after I posted this I found the dinosaur pants hiding in plain sight in lulas closet.
