Taking the metro with lula has been a real mixed bag lately. Some days she is happy to look out the window at passing trains and yell "look" every 45 seconds. Those are the good days.
Other days she is not happy to just look about the window. On those days she would rather begin our trip by demanding gummies and then whining loudly when I tell her I don't have any. A few stops later she begins emptying her backpack for fun. If I'm not paying attention she will actually throw her belongings from the bag as a way to regain my attention. She begins furtively pawing around in the bag and the - wham - she throws her plastic egg full of tattoos down the aisle if the metro leaving me two bad options: leave her detritus to roll down the aisle and pretend like it didn't happen or leave her alone to go retrieve. This decision can only be made in the moment and only after you consider how packed the train is.
Last week we made it almost all the way home before she said the word "poop" really loudly 4 times in a row. Initially I asked if she had to go to the bathroom but then I realized she was freaking out the people around us so then I pretended not to understand her. It is lost on her that it is not good metro etiquette to talk loudly about poop when on a rush hour train.
As much as I enjoy our extra time together on the train I think I will be happy when her daycare is in the neighborhood.
